“The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community,
but the person who loves those around them will create community.”
Bonhoeffer's words remain true today. The German theologian, executed
because of his gospel opposition to Nazism, saw that we can make an idol
of even the good thing of community when it becomes the best thing to
us, becoming a weak replacement to our worship of Christ.
"I am the vine, you are the branches, whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing..." Jesus said.
"Let love be genuine...Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor...Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep..." St. Paul wrote.
The Bible gives us a picture of community as an interdependent, reciprocal family system of love, care, kindness, confrontation, restoration, and partnership, all held together by and centered around Jesus.
This is why we enjoy being together. Playing. Learning. Serving. Worshipping. Growing.
Hope Pres sees community as the very soil in which God's renewal by grace finds fertile ground.
So, we plan stuff. And, we relish spontaneity as well. Launch the Calendar for a trimester over-view, or click a link to the right for more details. And, please get in touch with us to learn more or to ask about getting connected: firstname.lastname@example.org
In General, we plan things on a tri-mester basis: Summer, Fall/Winter,
Winter/Spring. Each season will come with it's own church-wide feast. We
host one Gospel-Centered Life Forum each Spring. And, our life-rhythm
of gospel discipleship and community continues throughout the year.
