What are our origins?
The beginning of our community is just the continuation of decades of prayer devoted to seeing this church started. Hope Pres began as The Bloomington Project when, in the summer of 2012, a group of 4 of us gathered in a dining room in Southeast Bloomington. We began praying, discussing vision, needs around us, and imagining how God could build a church with only 2 families.
So, we prayed for God to guide us and build us. We began hosting dinners, throwing parties, playing sports, and making friends. We started some Bible studies. We looked for ways to serve others and we received care and friendship from others as well. We kept throwing great parties, started more Local Communities, and began hosting a monthly private worship gathering in a loft above the downtown Subway. With smells of freshly baked bread and the music of "Eye of the Tiger" drifting up from the sandwich shop below, we sang together, prayed together, received God's word together, and celebrated the Lord's Supper together. We knew that God was shaping something sweet.
A New Season
Since then, we started more communities, began weekly Sunday worship gatherings in the gym at Harmony School, established Brew the Cure (a home-brew Oktoberfest fundraiser to help locals in their battles with cancer), saw more leaders committed, and met more people looking to see what God is doing in this place.
And, now we continue to see Christ's church moving forward: helping lead the way in establishing Safe Families for Children of Monroe County, initiating Sojourn Community (a Hope Nurture Community for marrieds), seeing deeper gospel growth happen through Sonship Gospel Mentoring, and transitioning our Sunday service to the Monroe County Convention Center to create better space to invite curious people.
